The Faculty of Technology, Art and Design (TKD) offers higher education and research and development (R&D) activities within technical subjects, arts and design. The Faculty has approximately 3.000 students and 280 staff members and is situated at Pilestredet Campus in downtown Oslo and at Kjeller Campus in Akershus.

The Department of Civil Engineering and Energy Technology has a vacancy for a professor/ associate professor in Energy and Environment in Buildings  

The Department of Civil Engineering and Energy Technology is growing. We are now looking for applicants for the position of professor or associate professor primarily connected to our bachelor and master of engineering degree programmes in Energy and Environment in Buildings.

Main duties of the position

  • Teaching and supervision of students at bachelor, master, and PhD levels within HVAC, energy management, life cycle assessment, indoor climate & health, hygiene.
  • Development of courses within the professional field
  • Participate in R&D activities, including application for funding, research, publishing and dissemination of results
  • Strengthening the academic and research work in the field of energy and environment in buildings
  • Active contribution to the development of high quality education
  • Active contribution to the general development of the department
  • The candidate is also expected to be involved in the university’s research community in general.
  • Some administrative tasks should be expected


  • The candidate must hold a PhD degree within building services engineering and/or indoor climate & health, or similar.
  • Knowledge of technical solutions used in HVAC in buildings in cold climate is required
  • Comprehensive knowledge of relevant Norwegian technical codes and regulations is required
  • Documented research experience is required, with a publication record in international conferences/journals
  • Experience in applying for external research funding is expected
  • Experience in teaching and supervision at university college/university level
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English. When relevant, Norwegian language classes will be offered to comply with the requirements of the position.

General criteria for appointment of a position as Professor or Associate professor are stipulated in Regulations relating to Appointment and Promotion to Teaching and Research Positions (Forskrift om ansettelse og opprykk i undervisnings- og forskerstillinger) § 1-2, see details in Norwegian

Candidates who have no relevant qualifications in pedagogy at the time of appointment must commit themselves to complete OsloMet’s programme for basic pedagogical competence (15 ECTS credits) within two years.

The university will test pedagogical skills in connection with a personal interview.

  • Flexibility, inquisitiveness, and a keenness to develop academic and teaching skills

  • Ability to manage research projects, and demonstrate fresh thinking and innovation
  • Professional user of software within the field
  • Ability to combine theoretical issues related to indoor climate with practical measurements
  • Ability to apply knowledge from various disciplines such as HVAC system, building physics, indoor climate, chemistry, health and eventually combine them into new disciplines

The salary for the position is in accordance with the pay for state employees: job code 1013 professor, NOK 695 500 – 893 900, job code 1011 associate professor 524 200 – 658 300.

A higher salary may be considered for particularly well-qualified applicants. Law deducts 2% of the salary to the State Pension Fund.
