OsloMet - Oslo Metropolitan University (former HiOA) is Norway’s third largest university, with more than 20,000 students and over 2000 employees. We conduct research in areas that are important for welfare and value creation, for instance health, education, social sciences, technology and design. Faculty of Social Sciences offers study programmes within archivistics, library and information science, journalism and media studies, social work, social policy and child welfare, public management and business.

The faculty has about 4200 students and nearly 280 members of staff.

The Department has around 600 students and 40 employees and is located at the OsloMet Pilestredet Campus in Oslo. Multiple programs are offered through the department, including Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral programs in Library and Information Science and a Bachelor’s program in Archivistics and Records Management.

The Department of Archivistics, Library and Information Science has available a tenured position as professor in library and information science. The department is a member of the iSchools organization, which means that our study programmes and research is concerned with the relationships between information, people, and technology.

Profile

We are searching for a person who will play a leading role in developing the department's research group Information and Society (INFOSAM) in the years to come. The research group studies the institutions, professions and policy design of the information field as well as people's use of information in work, education and everyday life. The employee will assist in strengthening the link between the department’s research and the study programmes at all levels. Developing courses at master level is particularly important.

Part of the research group coordinates the project The ALM-Field, Digitalization and the Public Sphere (ALMPUB), funded by The Research Council of Norway's KULMEDIA programme in the period 2016-2019. The employee is expected to continue and develop the department's research on the ALM institutions, cultural policy and the library's role in a digital society.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • contribute to the department’s research and development activities
  • collaborate with colleagues to develop new courses and programmes
  • lecture and supervise students at all levels, with special responsibilities for PhD students
  • initiate application processes for funding research projects and seek external funding

Qualifications and responsibilities

You must have:

  • PhD in a relevant field of study
  • a substantial and relevant publication record
  • expertise in and experience from guidance and teaching at doctoral level
  • experience in leading major research and development projects
  • access to good and relevant international research networks
  • good oral and written presentation skills in English

Presence at the workplace is expected.

Applicants who do not have adequate proficiency in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language on appointment, must acquire Norwegian skills corresponding to at least level B2 within three years of appointment.

Documented pedagogical qualifications and experience will be prioritized. Candidates who have no relevant qualifications in pedagogy at the time of appointment must complete OsloMet’s programme for basic pedagogical competence (15 ECTS credits) within two years.

OsloMet will evaluate pedagogical competencies during the individual interview.

Foreign diplomas must be translated into English by the degree-conferring institution. Education taken abroad should preferably be recognised in advance by NOKUT, and a confirmed copy of the letter of recognition should be enclosed.
  • a list of your publications
  • up to 10 academic documents from the last 10 years, in addiction to your PhD dissertation

The salary for the position is in accordance with the pay scale for Norwegian state employees, job title and position code. Salary NOK 695 500-893 900 annually. A higher salary may be considered for particularly well qualified applicants. Law deducts 2% of the salary to the State Pension Fund.
